Conacyt   CIMAT

The Mathematics Research Center, A.C. (CIMAT) was founded in 1980 in the city of Guanajuato and represented the first research center in mathematics, on par with the best institutions in the country, outside of Mexico City. Some time later, its graduate programs in mathematics were also the first decentralized programs of their time and have become one of the best options in Mexico and Latin America.
The CIMAT postgraduate courses in Basic Mathematics and Applied Mathematics were created in September 1993 with the objective of promoting the development of a mathematical culture and mathematical sciences in general, with international standards. On September 2, 1993, Dr. Adolfo Sánchez Valenzuela welcomed the first generations of the master's programs in basic mathematics and doctorate in sciences. From then to date, both the academic staff and the number of students have grown significantly: we have a staff of just over 50 teaching researchers, 25 doctoral students in Basic Mathematics, as well as 21 master's students in Basic Mathematics.
In addition to a wide range of regular courses, parallel seminars are held each semester on topics as diverse as difference geometry, commutative algebra, mathematical physics, topology of low-dimensional manifolds, among others. Throughout the year, the academic life of our students is complemented with schools, mini-courses and workshops that allow them to come into contact with national and international researchers of the highest level, beyond the CIMAT research staff.
The research areas cultivated by the Basic Mathematics group cover a wide spectrum of pure mathematics: commutative algebra, real analysis and functional analysis, differential equations, mathematical physics, algebraic and complex geometry, differential geometry, group and Lie algebras, G structures, applied. mathematics, dynamical systems and topology. Our research work is complemented by linkage actions in the academic and industrial fields.
